About this blog

A journal of my ideas on homeschooling. Also, a place to archive activities we've done and things we've learned along the way. I will showcase pros and cons of homeschool versus public school, as I work though these ideas and how they fit into my life. I, by no means, judge those who feel public school is a better fit for their family. It may be a better fit for our family one day too.

But where we sit right now is that the fit for our family is to have our children at home full-time. They are both not even school age. But our family's choice is to choose at home (and out in the world) care, learning and socialization by their mother (father, granparents, auntie) over daycare or preschool.

field trip

We went on a field trip with BestStart. We took a bus with a bunch of 1-3 year olds and their moms, dads, grandparents. There were some daycare groups there when we arrived. I noticed that large group field trips, end up being kids corralled around to each activity and a big part of the day is spent trying to keep them together.

Our group, of parents and kids, moved from each activity as well, but the kids were getting individual attention. And because each kid (or sibling set) had an adult, we could leave the group when we were done with say pumpkin painting, check out the turkeys, and then return and continue on the tour.

  1. I'm sure every homeschooling parent has their own home schooling pros and cons list when it comes to homeschooling their kids, but I will tell you that two big pros for me are the freedom to concentrate on my daughter during a field trip, and the freedom to not have to herd 25 other children on a field trip. The individual attention my child gets sure does mean a lot, to her, and to me. Thanks for reminding me of yet another reason that I homeschool!
