Anderson knows 12 letters so far. A B K L M O Q R T W X Z. This week we're doing the letter H. He was talking about hockey, so I decided on H. Some letter he knows words for. Like C is for Costco and car. But just doesn't know the name of the letter. Or like P and F he can draw them and knows words, just not the name. Sometimes we do letter of the week, (or it ends up on the fridge for the month!). But I've learned that as long as he's exposed to lots of words and letters, he seems to be learning them whether or not we update "letter of the week". Even though things aren't highly structured, they still learn.
Think about it: Kids learn to speak from their families and the world around them. No lesson plan necessary. Wired to learn in the early years.
About this blog
About this blog
A journal of my ideas on homeschooling. Also, a place to archive activities we've done and things we've learned along the way. I will showcase pros and cons of homeschool versus public school, as I work though these ideas and how they fit into my life. I, by no means, judge those who feel public school is a better fit for their family. It may be a better fit for our family one day too.
But where we sit right now is that the fit for our family is to have our children at home full-time. They are both not even school age. But our family's choice is to choose at home (and out in the world) care, learning and socialization by their mother (father, granparents, auntie) over daycare or preschool.
